The Bridge to HOPE trial is a pivotal multicenter randomized controlled study in the US comparing HOPE via the VitaSmart liver machine to standard static cold storage (SCS) for extended criteria DBD and DCD liver transplantation. Results presented at the American Transplant Congress 2024 in Philadelphia showed that HOPE significantly decreased early allograft dysfunction (20% vs 37%) and hospital length of stay (8 days vs 11 days), as well as marked reductions in DCD graft failure, ischemic cholangiopathy, and serious adverse events, with no device-related adverse events reported. The findings establish HOPE with VitaSmart as a safe and effective approach, resulting in better graft function and lower complication rates in liver transplant recipients.
